Why one score beats six reports
Hand a tech six reports and they will read zero of them. Hand them one fair number, with the math visible, and they will check it every day and argue with you about it, which is the entire point. The arguing is engagement. Nobody argues with a report they never opened.
A scorecard also fixes the manager's problem, which is that every single-number ranking is unfair. Rank on stops and the tech with the dense easy route wins forever. Rank on revenue and whoever gets handed the initials wins. A weighted composite is the only ranking that survives contact with the team.
How the score is built
Each factor is scored 0 to 100 relative to the techs you enter, then weighted:

The rules that keep it fair
- Scores are relative to this roster. A 90 means best of the techs entered, not best in America. That is what makes it a coaching tool instead of a trivia score.
- Reservice rate is inverted, so clean work scores high. Quality carries a quarter of the weight because a fast tech who generates callbacks is not fast.
- Cancellations are deliberately not on the card. Most cancels are customer-driven, and hanging the housing market on whoever ran the route teaches your techs to distrust every number you show them. The cancel rate guide covers the fair way to read cancels per tech.
What to do with it
Post it on a rhythm, weekly beats monthly, same day every time. Praise the top in public. Coach the bottom in private, using the factor scores to say something specific: your volume is fine, your callbacks are the gap. And keep the weights stable for a season, because a scorecard that changes its rules every month is a scoreboard nobody trusts.

How do you score pest control technicians?
One weighted composite per tech: production pace, volume, quality, and sales, each normalized 0 to 100 and weighted, with the math shown to the tech. Never a single raw number, because every raw ranking punishes whoever drew the harder route.
What KPIs belong on a technician scorecard?
Jobs per hour, stops, reservice rate inverted so quality pays, and new account sales. Cancels belong at low or zero weight because they are mostly customer-driven. Reviews earn a slot once you can attribute them to the tech.
Why are cancellations not on this scorecard?
Because most cancels are customer-driven: moves, money, or deciding the problem is solved. Charging those to the route tech is unfair, and techs who think a scorecard is unfair are done with it forever. Watch cancel patterns per tech over a season instead, and coach the cause.
